Did the Reformers come up with the doctrine of Penal Substitution?
This is a claim made by many who reject PSA. In this video, however, we look at why this is incorrect. Besides the fact that we see penal substitution in the Bible, we have multiple quotes from well before the Reformation that indicate, at the very least, that penal substitution was understood and accepted by the church.
We consider quotes from Justin Martyr, the Epistle to Diognetus, Eusebius, Hilary of Poitiers, Athanasius, Gregory of Nanzianzus, Ambrose of Milan, Peter Abelard, John Chrysostom, and Augustine of Hippo.
