A woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Highway 249 Thursday night in northwest Harris County. Deputies responded around 10:32 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 249 and Old Bammel North Houston Road, where investigators determined a southbound Cadillac sedan struck the woman as she ran eastbound across the roadway outside of a crosswalk. The driver initially left the scene but later returned and cooperated with investigators. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities said the driver had a green light, traffic signals were functioning properly, and there were no signs of intoxication; no charges were filed. During the investigation, a Harris County deputy was also struck by a Nissan sedan making a right turn at the intersection. The deputy was taken to a hospital in stable condition, while the Nissan driver was arrested on a possession of a controlled substance charge unrelated to the collision. The crash remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
