It’s pea season – early summer in a temperate climate.

Here I share a look at two beautiful varieties: Rondo, a reliable shelling pea from Premier Seeds Direct, and Tall Sugar, a sweet snap pea you can eat whole, pod and all. I’ve found they grow taller than the seed packets suggest – something to bear in mind when supporting them.

Tall Sugar isn’t available now, sadly, unless someone’s offering it online. But if you can get hold of a plant, save some seed – peas are easy to grow on for next year.
