For regions with reasonably mild winters, planting in autumn can give much earlier harvests in spring. Sowing dates are important and see my Calendar for tips on that..
However ... it does not always go to plan if autumn temperatures are unusually warm, as this year, meaning the spring cabbage look too advanced to me. And the spring onions have been massively attacked by Allium leaf miner, despite the mesh cover and the miners are proving a really difficult (new) pest here.
I’ve also had problems with the increasingly weak growth from my homesaved spinach seed. I think it's caused by too few spinach. plants flowering together back in June, they were 7 - and 20 would have been better. #nodig
