We got up to the cabin and the first thing we did was head straight down to the river to see what the flooding did. It dropped a lot overnight, but you can tell it was way higher. The whole riverbank changed. There’s a ton of new sand and it actually might make getting down there a lot easier this year. From there we just jumped into a bunch of projects. Rachel worked on planting native flowers around the cabin and I was working on getting the picnic table cleaned up and set in place. We also went out looking for morels, found one that turned out to be a false morel, so that was a good reminder to double check before doing anything with wild mushrooms.
We made a run into town, found a closer lumber yard which was a win, and stopped by a friend’s place where he hooked us up with some real morels. That definitely made up for our lack of success earlier. Back at the cabin we planted more trees, worked on the deck a bit until we ran into some tool limitations, and then just wrapped up the day with some good food. And then the highlight. Went down to the river to fish and ended up catching my first steelhead ever, right in front of the cabin. Totally unexpected, but we’ll take it.
