We finally made it back to the cabin after five months away, and let me tell you, it felt like stepping into a deep breath we didn’t know we needed. This trip was a mix of work and slowing down, which is kind of how it always goes out here. We hauled water, caught up on dishes the old fashioned way, and burned through more firewood than we probably should have thanks to a wood stove that has a mind of its own.
We spent time cleaning up the woods, building brush fences, making trails, and trying to give some of our trees a better shot at growing strong. Somewhere in between all that, we heated up leftover pizza, met some great people in town, and just enjoyed being back in a place that means a lot to us.
This was also our first trip to the cabin since retirement, and it definitely feels different in the best way. Less rushing, less pressure, more just being here. We even shared the story of how we bought this place and why it still feels like one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. It’s not perfect, but it’s ours, and that makes all the difference.
