"Otherworld" from MAP26 of Eviternity II.
I made the start area of MAP26 in mid-2020, it's one of the oldest parts of the entire WAD. When I was making it I was listening to the PSX Doom soundtrack, which used to be one of my go-tos for mapping music. While usually I don't really listen to the same kind of music that I would actually use in the map, the PSX Doom soundtrack just fit so well that I felt a similar kind of ambient music would be great for MAP26. And hey, I grew up on PSX Doom so you'd think I'd try this more often!
Fast forward a few years, and in June of 2023 I finally made a start on the track. By this point I had already written a PSX Doom inspired MIDI for Plutonia 3 so already a better idea on how to approach this kind of MIDI (Ionian Isolation was my first attempt but as proud as I am of that track, it didn't quite hit this specific mark) I also decided to add in some creepy glockenspiels to lean harder into the ethereal themes of the astral plane episode.
