Please share to help save more orangutans! Wak was forced into a fruit plantation as fires spread through the surrounding landscape, leaving him with fewer safe places to go. You may remember we posted a longer video last month.

With the risk to both Wak and local people growing, a joint team from BKSDA West Kalimantan, our partners YIARI, PT Mopakha and members of the community moved quickly to get him out of danger. (6th August 2026)

Thankfully, Wak was later released into suitable habitat within the same forest landscape, where he has the cover and food he needs to survive.

When habitat burns, orangutans can be pushed out of the forest and into areas where conflict becomes much more likely.

His small body was weak, and beneath his fur were signs of an old, healed fracture - evidence of serious trauma long before help arrived. When a baby orangutan is found alone like this, it almost always means his mother is gone. Habitat destruction and illegal mining are pushing orangutans deeper into danger. Randy is now safe at YIARI’s rehabilitation center, receiving medical care, proper nutrition, and round-the-clock support. But recovery - and the chance to one day return to the forest - will take years of specialised care. We urgently need your help to keep rescues like this possible. No animal deserves this.
