Notes
Onimusha 2 has multiple story routes and thus endings and I will be showing them all. It is based on your friendship level with four characters, which is increased by giving them certain items and then triggering story scenes. It’s a little complex and not possible for me to fully elaborate on here.

I had some issue reliably triggering Onimusha. It seems the input has to be both triggers at exactly the same time. Later, I learned that just mashing them was the best way to activate it.
Criticals are also done by attacking into an enemy during specific attack frames and I could not tell you how to do it reliably. Some enemies have easier attacks to trigger criticals on, such as the basic samurai enemies you encounter in the gold mine area, which you can easily trigger criticals on by run attacking into their charge but I did not spend much time trying to figure out the correct windows of opportunity.
During the phantom realm sections, each floor operates on a timer to spawn enemies it seems so when I’m just standing there, it’s because I killed the enemy group faster than the developers designed for.
