A short clip of a species I've had a penchant to photograph for the past 9yrs. The critically endangered Okinawa Woodpecker, a.k.a. Pryers Woodpecker, is only found in small pockets of thick jungle in the northern confines of the Yambaru jungle of Okinawa main island.
After a long search I was able to recently locate and photograph an active couple excavating a potential nest site for the impending breeding season. Fingers crossed as I plan additional trips to look at creating a short film about this couple.
