It has been a while since I last posted, and I apologize again, I usually try and get them out at least once a month but I have been thinking of other things, and to be honest not listening to as much music as I perhaps should be. Nonetheless, sometimes one gets tired of metal, goth and electronic music - Soundscapes that one would normally hear in forgotten gothic castles or bleak valleys of death, drudgery and filth merged with blackness and beauty.
Every now and then, one needs an album like this. Something to calm the nerves and heal the heart, a soundtrack that could easily play as you share a coffee with your beloved in Paris, or sup from a soy latte in an expensive cafe, pretending to draw on your tablet while your jeans that are way too tight cling to your thighs like the beautiful melodies cling to your ears. I do not mean to disparage this music by calling it "hipster music", that would be droll and presumptive. In fact, I really quite love the music presented on this offering.
Oh, La, La! is what would appear to be a jazz band of sorts, or... I am not sure what to call it, but imagine street performers in the streets of Paris and you might have what the band is trying to create. I volunteer at a charity shop, and I happened upon this record, a bit beaten up but as I marked its price I thought, "This looks interesting..." And today, I decided to purchase it because it looked lonely upon its perch in the CD rack. That being said, the quality of the disk was questionable, but for 99p it's a steal. If you ever want to volunteer anywhere, or you happen upon a British Heart Foundation, I'd highly recommend trying it out. Some of the things you can find in there are tremendous, and of good quality, and those that work there are friendly and they do a superb job of aiding their cause.
However, I lament that I'm unable to provide this album with as good of a quality upload to YouTube as I would like, the very beginning of the album appears to glitch out a touch, and not in a good, strange way. It still sounds good, but the first track has some of that marring upon it. That being said, this music is beautifully performed, folk songs performed in a lusciously brilliant way with musicians that know what they're doing, a singer with a beautiful, soothing voice, and the calmness to your day after long hours of lifting boxes, pricing CDs and tagging clothes - Not that I'm complaining, I love doing that, but right now, I think I'm happy with a sip from my iced coffee and the knowledge that people can access this music freely and easily. Chiasms newest EP, Mice On A Wheel, continues on the style established in her previous album 11:11, featuring the bubbly, ethereal darkwave style which purveyed 11:11. However, instead of simply repeating the same notes touched upon in that album, Mice On A Wheel borrows fragments of the reverb-drenched, industrious atmosphere her first three albums were known for, applying these elements to her evolved style and creating a new concoction from the result that evokes a melancholic wanderlust quality in the listener similar to the first two albums methodical, submerged approach to atmosphere. At the same time, the music present invokes the catchy, nearly bouncy nature of 11:11, creating a teeming whirlpool of emotions and sensations, from the melancholic, homely World Left to the mechanical, clean, jittery Mice on a Wheel. No doubt, this isnt an EP you want to pass up if you are a fan of industrial music, and neither is the album Reset, which comes out later this year!
