Essence of Existence is a band that has eluded me for a multitude of reasons, chief among them being their name. I just can never seem to remember it. Essence of Eternity? Eternity of Existence? Existence of Essence? Essence of Essence? Luckily, I have my hands on one of their works now, so I know what I'm looking for. Another reason is the fact that their records are quite elusive - Not even in cost either. It's more the fact that this album was never released for sale digitally, and wasn't re-released to my knowledge - At all. I wasn't even able to find the entry on Discogs, let alone a copy for sale. Thankfully, I am resourceful. Or at least I know people who are.
Shoutout to Housies, the person who helped me locate this album. I don't know where these bands are, I don't know what they're pulling when they don't let me buy their albums. If they are looking for money, I can tell you that he has no chucklebucks. But what he does have is a particular set of skills, which involve climbing onto bridges. He has acquired these skills over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for bands like you. If you make your albums easily available, that'll be the end of it. He will not look for you, he will not lego you. But if you don't, he will not lego of you, he will find you, and he will give you an education in making somewhat useless but still impressive lego contraptions.

Now, on with the description. Essence of Existence, as I said, has been elusive to me. And yet, really it is the start of my interest in "undocumented" music. Because here we have a band with a lot of artistic merit, a lot of musical talent... Who have a scant presence on Youtube. Their later albums are almost entirely on here, though there may be some tracks that still need to be uploaded, yet besides the tracks I grabbed and uploaded from their site, this album has almost nothing on it anywhere. So I believe this is as good a place to help that as any.
The album begins with an instrumental, an odd choice but one that clues you into the vibe of the band. Endless Circle feels esoteric, plays at gothic metal and holds death metal sensibilities, and yet it portrays a number of unique sounds. The song feels right at home at the gateway into another world or the portcullis of a gothic castle. It's a soft opener, but a good one at that. As the album progresses, vocals begin to make their presence known - And in fact, there are multiple vocalists. In fact I think the entire band gets a chance to sing; From Astral, whose vocals range from a possessed speech which reminds one of Timeghoul to throat-shredding growls, to Fear, whose female vocals glide across the piece with a ghost's soothing melancholy. There is a definite feeling of darkness to the album, and it will please fans of gothic metal, death metal, and symphonic black with its array of deftly shifting tones, textures and sounds. I suppose a good way to describe it would be colourful.
The production is perhaps a bit rawer than your average symphonic black metal, but that doesn't take away from the power of the music here, or the strong genrebending that takes place in each song. It can go from doomy, gloomy sections to ferocious death riffage in seconds and then launch into fierce blast-beats with gutturals that sound like they echo from a horrid beast in the depths of a dank cave. I usually find it hard to enjoy black metal-oriented stuff, but this is some damn good music, and as I listen to it now, it doesn't cease to surprise me. A real standout is "For the Undead", it never gets tiresomely erratic and yet changes consistently and effortlessly.
Essence of Eternity are incredibly good musicians, criminally underrated, who crafted dark art that deserves to be appreciated even 20 years after their debut album (this one!) It is hard to call any of the albums I have on my channel truly essential, and to tell you the truth they're not - But art doesn't need to be essential in order to be great. Someday, people will forget that this music exists, and it will fade into the ether of lost arts, but as long as it is allowed to stay on the internet and be enjoyed by those who would search for it, it will never die and will continue to enrich lives.

Chiasms newest EP, Mice On A Wheel, continues on the style established in her previous album 11:11, featuring the bubbly, ethereal darkwave style which purveyed 11:11. However, instead of simply repeating the same notes touched upon in that album, Mice On A Wheel borrows fragments of the reverb-drenched, industrious atmosphere her first three albums were known for, applying these elements to her evolved style and creating a new concoction from the result that evokes a melancholic wanderlust quality in the listener similar to the first two albums methodical, submerged approach to atmosphere. At the same time, the music present invokes the catchy, nearly bouncy nature of 11:11, creating a teeming whirlpool of emotions and sensations, from the melancholic, homely World Left to the mechanical, clean, jittery Mice on a Wheel. No doubt, this isnt an EP you want to pass up if you are a fan of industrial music, and neither is the album Reset, which comes out later this year!
