This quote is from near the end of TreatsForBeasts’ short film, Perfect Little Dream. I find that film fascinating, along with his two others, their eccentricity is absurd, obtuse and often obscene. But enough of big dumb words, because they have released the soundtracks, something I was waiting for for a long while. Not only that, but they’ve released the music for four of their most popular videos. I can’t really explain or pontificate upon TreatsForBeasts very well, but their content and music means a lot to me. A tenebrous darkness pervades TreatsForBeasts’ videos and music as he explores what I can only describe as our reality from the lens of an alien. If I were to pin down a singular theme for TFB’s work, it’s that people are weird as fuck, and that the unfluid attempts to think of ourselves as normal and sane in this insane world are seeds of elitism, laziness and failure to understand the human condition.
His short films are beautiful, and such is his music – But although it doesn’t really take away from the music, I can’t help but feel like I recognise where some of his instruments come from. I think he uses FL Studio. I think he uses it pretty well too – It all feels awfully weird, yet strangely familiar. If you enjoy anything weird, out there, earnest and dark, treatsforbeasts: the music comes well recommended as well as 4 rewatches of his 3 movies, which will probably increase to 4 sometime soon. Also, listen to the Sanguinarius tracks, not just on this (which he lovingly packaged with his other material) but also on his album from 2017 Sin Nomine which like his treatsforbeasts work is uncompromisingly dark yet is more focused into a goth rock atmosphere.

Chiasms newest EP, Mice On A Wheel, continues on the style established in her previous album 11:11, featuring the bubbly, ethereal darkwave style which purveyed 11:11. However, instead of simply repeating the same notes touched upon in that album, Mice On A Wheel borrows fragments of the reverb-drenched, industrious atmosphere her first three albums were known for, applying these elements to her evolved style and creating a new concoction from the result that evokes a melancholic wanderlust quality in the listener similar to the first two albums methodical, submerged approach to atmosphere. At the same time, the music present invokes the catchy, nearly bouncy nature of 11:11, creating a teeming whirlpool of emotions and sensations, from the melancholic, homely World Left to the mechanical, clean, jittery Mice on a Wheel. No doubt, this isnt an EP you want to pass up if you are a fan of industrial music, and neither is the album Reset, which comes out later this year!
