In the search for more bands that have not been fully uploaded on Youtube, I stumbled upon a seller looking to offer his CD's at a discounted price; Obscure Germanic death metal records at a bargain. And boyo what a bargain it was.
More on the death side of doom, Demenz's onslaught is ruthless, and its eldritch choice in cover art couldn't be more fitting. Though its music is brutish and lumbering, laden with skillful harmonics and dripping with riffs that rip and tear at the flesh of its listener's ears, this is not to say that Demenz is all might and no magic: Its visceral throat-tearing vocals are often found referring more to a doomy, moody aesthetic - Not unlike that of gothic metal of its time, but at the same time not dipping its toes into pretension or dreariness. Demenz is a band who aren't reluctant to slow themselves down, speed themselves up - With a grace and brutality in an open hand and clenched fist respectively, that provides a nuance to its subject matter. Death and doom compound and crush one another at the same time, leaving quite a lovely, Germanic gem of evil, brimming with the nasty atmosphere of death metal and the sickening, malevolent beauty of gothic aesthetic.
In short, it's uh... It's pretty good.
