The annual North Yorkshire Moors Railway Autumn Gala falls hot on the heels of the Severn Valley's steam gala, and as usual, there was plenty of hardworking steam locos on show. The gala would see three visiting engines, though only two were regular performers. The main guest was GWR Hall class 4953 Pitchford Hall from the Epping Onger Railway. The American S160 2253 Omaha was brought back to the NYMR for a permanent home but suffered from ill health and was rarely seen out, so unfortunately, it doesn't showcase in my video. The final guest was Southern Railway 34028 Eddystone, which was visiting from the Swanage Railway.
The first two days were affected by poor weather, especially the Thursday, which saw heavy rain and gusting winds last throughout the day. There was an easing of the rain for the second day, but the gusty winds were still present, which meant most locations were windswept. There was also a lack of serviceable coaches due to a minor shunting incident which took place, so this year the length of trains was slightly shorter. The homefleet were in attendance as usual, with 926 Repton and the Black Fives putting on a fine show.
The video is shorter than normal due to the lack of filming on the first two days. Also, we're on a family and friends holiday so we couldn't give it the full attention. The weather and conditions improved considerably for the final two days. We travelled the trains on the final day and as always, we had a great time despite operational issues.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy what we did manage to film.
