We haven't been able to cover much of the recent Christmas steam excursions this year due to other commitments and minor illnesses but we did manage to capture a few scenes. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is seen first way back on the 16th November on its way to York for the opening weekend of the York Christmas Market. The A4 is seen racing along the ECML (east coast mainline) at Cromwell in Nottinghamshire. On the 4th December we captured Great Western Castle Class 5043 'Earl Of Mount Edgecumbe' which was also heading to the York Christmas market. The Castle is seen powering away from Burton On Trent on route to Derby on the 4th December.
The 11th December would see the West Country Class 34046 Braunton at Bradford On Avon and Avoncliff as the Bullied headed to Bath for their renowned Christmas Market. And for a final and most recent scene we once again capture Sir Nigel Gresley, this time the A4 is seen recovering from a signal check on the climb to Hinckley on a dank and drizzly Friday morning as it headed to Chester for their Christmas market. Due to the low mist and drizzle this played havoc with the focus on my camera, thankfully the main portion of the shot was unaffected but as the loco and carriages passed the camera the focus started to dip, so apologies about that. Having topped the summit the A4 is finally seen on the curve through Hinckley station.
I'm not yet sure if this our final action from 2024, if it is, please keep a lookout for my usual end of year compilation which will feature our best action from the mainline and a selection of preserved railways. I hope you all have a happy Christmas !
