Noble Canyon Trail is a 10-mile point-to-point in Cleveland National Forest with 2,400 feet of elevation gain. The trail runs through open chaparral and oak woodland, with cactus, seasonal wildflowers, and exposure to wind and sun. I hiked it in spring with unpredictable weather, snow at the start, sun and wind mid-trail, and blood from a cactus encounter. It's popular with mountain bikers, so stay alert on blind corners. Park at the Pine Valley trailhead off Interstate 8, about 45 minutes east of San Diego. Best hiked fall through spring before summer heat sets in.
