Muir Woods protects one of the last ancient coastal redwood groves, with trees over 1,000 years old and 250+ feet tall. The Main Loop is a flat, accessible 1-2 mile walk through Cathedral Grove and along Redwood Creek. The Canopy View Loop climbs to hillside overlooks above the forest floor. The Bootjack Trail pushes deeper into quieter groves away from crowds. Reservations are required for parking and entry most of the year, but a small no-permit window exists after 5pm. All three routes start from the visitor center and return on boardwalks through the core grove.
