Scout Lookout is a 4 mile round trip hike in Zion that climbs 1,050 feet up the West Rim Trail to the base of Angels Landing. No permit required. You get the same canyon views and trail experience as Angels Landing without the chains section or lottery system. The climb is steep with switchbacks but has no exposure or technical sections. Best tackled early morning to avoid heat and crowds on the exposed trail. If you want the Zion experience but can't get an Angels Landing permit, this delivers.
