Digging through old Nintendo ad archives always turns up something strange, and this 1992 Mario Paint commercial might be one of the odder ones.

Mario Paint came out in August 1992 for the Super Nintendo, made by Nintendo R&D1 and Intelligent Systems, and it was one of the only SNES games built around the Super NES Mouse, which came bundled right in the box with it. For that $59.95 price flashing on screen, you got the game, the mouse, and the mousepad, though the console itself was sold separately.

The draw, animate, and compose music pitch wasn't just marketing either. People used this thing to make real art and music for years afterward, and it ended up selling more than 2.3 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best selling games on the entire system. Those strange little animated scenes in the ad, the couple in the bathtub, the flooded house, that giant snail dinner in front of the Eiffel Tower, were all meant to show off what the software could actually create, which says a lot about how ahead of its time this thing really was.
Did this commercial creep you out a little too, or is it just me? Let me know down below.
