Known more as a Percussionist, Don Alias was also an excellent drummer and that’s him playing kit on this track. He’s also on drums with Nina Simone in the fantastic “Summer of Soul” documentary/concert. I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t seen that movie. This is my favorite rendition of “To Love Somebody” and prefer it over the Bee Gee’s original. Also an excellent recording though.
As a side note, this is a good song to play along with to work on slightly more uptempo 16th note hi hat grooves.
