Hey guys! It's certainly been a while but today we jump right back into business by starting our journey into "√25"! "Baku" is first out and we've got a lot to cover here so let's get into it.
First and foremost—the name. In Japanese folklore the "baku" is a holy beast with parts from different animals; the head of an elephant, the body of a bear, the eyes of a rhinoceros, the tail of an ox and the back legs of a tiger. Despite their monstrous appearance, baku are revered as guardian spirits and they watch over humans by feeding on bad dreams/nightmares, thus warding off evil spirits and youkai (supernatural monsters). With that info at hand the lyrics start to make a lot more sense and it's super cool to see this piece of ancient Japanese history being incorporated into modern music being made in 2025.
After the second chorus there are three English lines being omitted in the official lyrics but from what I can hear they sing "Fade away, everywhere, fade away". This is just my own interpretation though, mind you, but I'm fairly certain I got that right.
The "Take my pain,Take my fear" is not a typo—that's how YOMI wrote the official lyrics so I decided to keep it as such.
Lastly, let's talk about the EP itself! The "√25" is an ingenious name in itself because we're celebrating 25 years of Nightmare as a band this year.
If you take the root of 25 you get 5, which of course is the number of members but also the number of songs on the EP, and every single member has created a song of their own which is absolutely amazing.
If you add all the letters in the names of the songs on the EP, you get 25.
If you add all the words in English in this song that are transcribed in the offical lyrics, you get 25.
These are the correlations I've made so far but since I haven't done a deep-dive into the rest of the songs there might be more references to uncover in the future. Please share if you have any more because things like these really pique my interest!
