Six poems by Alfred, Lord Tennyson set to music by Nicolas Flagello. The Land was composed in 1954 for his brother Ezio, a bass vocalist who performed for over two decades with the Metropolitan Opera. The work in all six of its songs is linked together by a single motif which debuts in the opening section. Flagello uses to great effect the small chamber forces that accompany the soloist , exhibiting his mastery of orchestral color.

The Throstle (8:45)
The Oak (11:18)
The Snowdrop (16:41)
Flower in the Cranny (19:05)
The composer conducts I Musici di Firenze with Ezio Flagello singing. The recording was made in Italy in 1962.
