One of the most beautiful evening walks in Europe, Nice comes alive at dusk as the summer heat fades and the cafés fill. This walk begins at Place Masséna and the controversial Fontaine du Soleil, heads along the Mediterranean seafront on Quai des Ãtats-Unis (the eastern continuation of the Promenade des Anglais), then climbs into the colorful lanes of Vieux Nice, Cours Saleya, and Place Rossetti.
Ideal for virtual travel, treadmill walks, and ambient atmosphere. Best with headphones.

Nice sits on the Baie des Anges along the French Riviera, founded by Greek sailors around 350 BC as Nikaia. Place Masséna, the city's central square, was constructed between 1832 and 1850 on arcades covering the Paillon River. At its southern end stands the Fontaine du Soleil, featuring a 7-meter marble Apollo by sculptor Alfred Janniot surrounded by five bronze figures representing Earth, Mars, Venus, Mercury, and Saturn. Inaugurated in 1956, the Apollo was controversial enough to be removed in the 1970s and only restored to the square in 2011. Vieux Nice, the Italian-influenced old town east of Place Masséna, was added to UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2021 as part of "Nice, Winter Resort Town of the Riviera."
