Sony will need to do A LOT to convince the majority of PS5 users to upgrade if they stick with the Holiday 2027 launch. But there is also the PS6 handheld which is reportedly going to be dockable. I wonder how that will impact next-gen for Sony. The PlayStation 6 handheld is likely to cost around ~$600 in 2027
You may say that sounds very expensive but the reality is that the PS6 handheld can effectively do base render like Series S but also have next-gen PSSR (FSR5)
It'll literally be untouchable at ~$600 for 2 years An insider has claimed that the rumored PS6 handheld’s GPU is more powerful than the Xbox Series S’s.
We have seen many details about the PlayStation 6 handheld in recent months, including claims from insiders that it has impressive memory specs and is dockable. Now, an insider has revealed how it stacks up against one of Xbox’s current-gen consoles and Nintendo’s Switch 2.
PS6 Handheld GPU is Better than the Xbox Series and Has Better Upscaling than Switch 2
A new post in a recent NeoGaf thread by KeplerL2 (via Wccftech) compares the PS6 handheld’s GPU to that of the Xbox Series S. The insider stated that the rumored handheld’s GPU is “a bit ahead” of the Series S in Raster and “massively ahead” in aspects like Ray Tracing and Path Tracing.
When asked whether PSSR3 would be better than Switch 2’s upscaling, the insider stated, “Switch 2 only has DLSS 2 (CNN) and some games even use the worse “DLSS Lite”. FSR5/PSSR3 will be better IQ than even current DLSS 4.5″.
The upcoming handheld is set to have ‘a good amount of memory’ at 24GB. Additionally, the following specs were leaked for the “PS6 Canis Handheld” back in August 2025: News on the PlayStation 6 handheld:
- Aims to be "extremely more" powerful than a switch 2 (Nintendo is worried)
- Docked mode the power will be around a mid range PC (5080 build)
- Price $699
- Won't be able to play physical games unless you have a normal PS6
-Launch when ready According to insider KeplerL2, a rumored PlayStation handheld tied to the PS6 could feature a GPU that surpasses the Xbox Series S.
The leaker claims it’s going to be “a bit ahead” in rasterisation and “massively ahead” in ray tracing and path tracing.
As always, take this with a grain of salt.
