Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki confirmed they have not yet decided on a release date or price point for the PS6.
He said they are considering new ways to sell the PS6 and potentially trying new business models due to the likelihood of RAM prices still being very high. Sony to partner with Bandai Namco for Generative AI
"We are currently engaged in a collaborative pilot initiative with Bandai Namco Holdings to explore how generative AI and the latest technologies can most effectively contribute to realizing a creator's vision."
via Webcast Sony hasn't decided on the PlayStation 6 release date or pricing. Memory price is expected to be very high in FY27.
Sony will "think about various simulations, including changing business models to come up with the best solution and strategy." Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki says they have not yet decided when to release the PS6 or what price it will be!
“We have not yet decided on at what timing we will launch the new console, or at what prices. So we would like to really observe and follow the situation.
"Looking at the current circumstances, the memory price is also expected to be very high FY 2027, because there will still be a shortage of supply. So under that assumption, we must think carefully what we will do.”

[via The Information] As Microsoft gets ready to overhaul its struggling Xbox gaming unit, it hasnt ruled out spinning out or restructuring the unit as a wholly-owned subsidiary, which could make it easier to sell, or creating a joint venture with other partners, according to three people with direct knowledge of the discussions. Xbox plans major reset at the company going forward as the business falls under strain:
▪️Excluding Activision, Xbox has lost roughly half a billion dollars in revenue per year over the past five years
▪️Will end this fiscal year at ~3% profitability, down year-over-year
▪️Prices for console storage components will be 5x what they were last Fall
▪️Xbox has been impacted more greatly than many of their peers due to choice made in the past 5 years
▪️Need new business models and partnerships for hardware, committed to Helix
▪️Xbox is overextended after expanding the amount of first party studios
▪️Need to reassess the balance in investment priorities for the next 5 years
