We have tried to plan a trip to Northstar Bike Park several times but every year something happens and we never make it happen (one year was covid, the following year was fire and last year was snow) This year we planned to go the week after Labor Day. Everything was set but a few days before we were set to head up, the Davis fire started burning near Lake Tahoe. Luckily the fire didn't get close enough to close down Northstar.
We headed up on Saturday afternoon. The original plan was to meet up with Kyle and his family to camp in Truckee but part of the 395 was closed and we would get there too late so we decided to get a motel somewhere between Mammoth and Truckee. It took us 9 hours to get to Carson City which was where we decided to stop and get a motel. We got there just past midnight. The hotel was kinda ghetto but all we needed was a place to crash. The next morning we headed up to Northstar which was about 1 hr from Carson City.
This was my first time and Northstar was way bigger than I thought. The price for the day ticket was $95. A season pass is $519 so it would make more sense to get a season pass if you are able to hit it at least 5 times in the season. At first I felt that the price was steep but after riding there for the day it was definitely worth it. They put a ton of time and money into the park. There are so many wood features and the trails are very well maintained.
We got there when they opened and we stayed there until it closed. We were one of the last riders on the lift. We hit so many trails and I had so much footage I had to break the day into 2 videos. In this video we hit: Coaster, Gypsy, Boondocks, Sticks and Stones, Playground, Speed Control, Pho Dogg. We also hit the Toyota Drop which was sick! The next video we Tell No Tales (TNT) which is the gnarliest trail and we finally hit Livewire which is their main jumpline. We had 20 to 25 mph winds so we waited until it gone down to about 15 mph around 4pm and we sent it.
Northstar is a bad ass bike park, it's a little pricey so if you are one of those guys who eat lunch at 1pm and stop riding after lunch it's probably not worth it. However if you are a rider who hit laps after laps it's definitely worth it. Probably my favorite bike park in California.
