Between the spine infection, pain, ongoing fevers, and starting an IOP program for OCD/Anxiety I have come to a point in my life where I need to strategically scale down my training and it hasn’t been easy.
At first I tried to just keep up with my usual schedule despite my body feeling off and being in pain, but anytime I pushed, my body would push back even more and I was left with no choice but to accept the fact that I had to scale things back right now or I would drive myself further into the ground both physically and mentally.
It hasn’t been easy. There have been many times throughout the process where I just beat myself up and called myself a slacker, but I have learned that accepting where you’re at isn’t giving up. Sometimes it is the only way to keep going.
It is okay to scale things back when you need to. If scaling back is what prevents you from quitting. That is what you need to do, and beating yourself up for it won’t make it any easier for you!
Do you struggle with scaling things back? Do you tend to feel anxious or beat yourself up? Let me know in the comments!
