For years, we were told depression is either a chemical imbalance or just negative thinking…
To put it bluntly: both are lazy explanations.
Yes, stress matters. Trauma matters. Sleep matters.
And everything that goes on in your body is chemistry.
But telling someone with a B12 of 120 to “reframe their thoughts” is ridiculous.
You can’t mindset your way out of nutrient deficiencies.
Depression isn’t one thing. It’s biology, lifestyle, genetics, and environment.
And the more we oversimplify it, the more people feel like it is all their fault.
If you’ve ever been told you just need to be more positive, or get out and have more fun… tell me, what is it that really helped?
