Multi Role Respone Vessel of the Philippine Coast Guard from JAPAN
On Feb. 7, 2020, a contract for the supply and delivery of two 94-meter multi-role response vessels was signed.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade led the signing ceremony between the agency and Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.
This was also confirmed by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding company on their website and concluded the agreement with the Republic of the Philippines to construct two multi-role response vessels.
According to Mitsubishi Shipbuilding company, the ships on order are vessels with overall length of approximately 94 meters. They also have a maximum speed of not less than 24 knots, and an endurance of not less than 4,000 nautical miles. Both vessels will be equipped with secured communication systems for Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance, helideck and a hangar for helicopter operations, an underwater remotely operated vehicle for subsurface search and survey, and high-speed rubber boats.
Recently, the Philippine Coast Guard has released the CGI (Computer Generated Image) of their new 94-meter patrol vessels that will be built by Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. based on Japan Coast Guard's Kunigami-class which was previewed in PCG Admiral Joel S. Garcia’s TOUR OF DUTY REPORT video.
The new MRRVs to be delivered to the Philippines from Japan are part of the PCG Maritime Capability Improvement Project Phase II.
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding company said, the vessels will be built at Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works for completion and delivery in 2022.
