The infamous "genital tackle" occurred on December 1, 2013, when San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was grabbed and pulled down directly by his groin by St. Louis Rams safety T.J. McDonald.

The incident took place during the third quarter of a game at Candlestick Park. Davis caught a crossing route pass from quarterback Colin Kaepernick and was headed out of bounds when McDonald tackled him from behind. Instead of a standard wrap-up, McDonald gripped Davis's crotch area tightly to bring him to the turf and reportedly refused to let go immediately.

Davis briefly left the game in visible pain. He later told reporters, "I was hurting. He broke some skin right there," describing it as a first-time experience.
