Paul W.S. Anderson, director of Mortal Kombat, sits for an interview to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his klassic movie!
In #mortalkombat, Lord Raiden (Lambert) handpicks three martial artists - law enforcement agent Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson), Lui Kang (Robin Shou) and action movie hotshot Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) and after intense training, Raiden transports the trio to Outworld, the site of an inter-dimensional deadly fighting tournament. There, the three humans must defeat the warriors of the evil Shang Tsung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) - or allow Tsung to take over the Earth.
Mortal Kombat premiered in the United States on August 18, 1995. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the martial art sequences, atmosphere, performances and production values, but criticized the toned-down violence from the games. Despite the mixed critical response, the film was well received by fans of the series, and the film became a Gen X classic.
#PaulWSAnderson has made a name for himself directing some of the most divisive cult-classics of the late 20th and early 21st century. Most notably, he has been a stalwart when it comes to the Resident Evil franchise, but has also directed Event Horizon (1997), Soldier (1998) and Alien vs Predator.
During the #interview, Anderson discusses what he remembers about the project, how he landed one of the 90s biggest cult blockbusters despite it only being his second film, and his love for the video game.
