Experiment #493: 8-Track Tape

(Rated G) Micorwaving an 8-track tape is something I hadn't done even though I'd wanted to do it for ages and I'd done every other type of recording format before. I microwaved a cassette tape, a VHS tape, an 8mm tape for camcorder, a CD, 30 CDs, 100 CDs, a laserdisc, but the one thing I hadn't done is an 8-track. Until now, that is. Just like the magnetic thinking putty, this thing wasted no time in catching fire and it completely burned up the microwave within 3 minutes. I misspoke in the video however, I thought it was only the third I'd done with the mini-Kenmore. It was the fourth, making this tied for the shortest run I've used a microwave for. I'm surprised only 2 minutes of fire finished it off. Still, an eight track tape in a microwave is something that as far as I know hasn't been done much (dOvetastic did a four track back in the day, but a 4-Track is not the same thing). Of the media storage devices I've done, this has the best results by far. I was also amazed at how quickly it caught fire. Perhaps thinking putty remains helped it along? EIther way, we're getting close to episode 500, which is going to be special so I'm glad the lead up is good. Microwave Me is currently in its 18th season of production and has now been running on YouTube for over four years, dating back to the old school microwave show period, while being filmed in crystal clear 1080p for the best quality and as always stars Captain Microwave stars as the host and producer, who for this episode uses a miniatue old school 600-watt Kenmore microwave.
