What is a mechanics secret to a great running vehicle? I would imagine it begins with regular maintenance and even includes preventative maintenance. As you've seen in my series on this new-to-me 2005 Toyota 4Runner (4th Gen 4Runner), even though the engine was running good, when I checked the spark plugs I noticed that multiple plugs were loose. After inspection I also noticed that there was combustion soot coating the ignition coils. The diagnosis, from me, was that the spark plugs were failing (and loose) and the ignition coils were cooked. One of the coils even had cracks running through the barrel. If this vehicle had preventative maintenance those issues would've been noticed and addressed much sooner.
This Toyota has 236k miles and I want to get another 200k out of it. But, I think that'll only happen with regular and preventative maintenance.
