For lab 1, we are measuring the grain size in MAHLI images of the Avery Peak, which was imaged 3 times. Ideally, students can measure the grain size using digital tools. I set up the images with circles that match the boundaries between phi scale bins. Thus, students can compare each grain to a movable circle to determine the phi bin to record. However, not everyone has a working vector graphics program, so in this video, I show how to scale the image on a computer screen to make the grain size easy to measure with a physical ruler (including scaling the measurements to actual grain size.)
