The history of scientific understanding of turbidites, turbidity currents, and ocean bathymetery is a nice story of different types of evidence from different approaches combining to solve problems in several scientific fields - as well as a practical problem of intercontinental communications. In this video, I tell a tiny bit of the story, based on an interpretation of events surrounding a 1929 earthquake in Newfoundland and the breaking of telegraph cables on the ocean floor.
