On 7 July 2013, at the end of the works carried out with the contribution of the Piedmont Region, the municipality of Masio opened the museum "the Tower and the River". The heart of the initiative is the ancient medieval tower of the 13th century, included in a larger museum project spread across the territory of the municipality of Masio: history, culture, environment, art and tourism along the Tanaro. The museum follows the development of the tower: seven floors that tell the story of the tower of Masio and more generally the history of the towers of the territory (from emblem of the power of the municipalities in the medieval era to characterizing element of the landscape in contemporary times) through images, reproductions of ancient documents and scale models. It starts from the territory of Masio in ancient times and continues, ascending, to the techniques of construction, defense, siege until arriving at the moment in which the tower, having lost its strategic function, becomes part of the surrounding landscape that is dominated by the presence of the Tanaro. Hence the name of the museum that links the two fundamental aspects of the territory. Once the internal floors are finished, you reach the top, from which you can admire the breathtaking view of the Tanaro river, the plain and the hills of Monferrato.
