Mary Anne and Paddy’s house was built in the 1930s, and the dresser came from the old family home. It was dipped in 1997 and was originally made by Mary Anne’s great-grandfather, William Conneely of Knockarasser. William died in 1927, so she believes the dresser was probably made around the early 1900s.
William made and repaired a lot of furniture locally, and the family has written accounts of his work, recorded by his son in the 1940s. If you look closely, you can see repeated design elements common in other dressers from the area — such as the platter shelf at the bottom, the wide bed, and the stepped-in shoulders.
