A Wedding Custom from Dublin
I spent a few hours today recording a group of women in a greenhouse of all places in Corkagh Park in Dublin back in 2022 and this is just one of a ton of stories/customs/words shared with me. It’s a wedding custom where the father of the bride or members of the bridal party would throw up and handful of coins into the air as the bride was leaving the house. It still goes on and here are Rose Donaghue and Suzanne O’Neill telling me how as children they loved when there was a ‘grushie’ on as they got a few pence. It is not common around Ireland but found over in Wales, northern England and Scotland. I also heard some Dublin people called it a 'Crushie'.
