"IDNTWNTU (feat. Eryn Martin)" by Marius
Curated by: Jared Paul
Spotify: bit.ly/IDNTWNTUMarius
Genre: #futurebeat
I'm feeling somewhat self-conscious with the fact that many of you probably won't "get" this song. Ya know the term "easy listening"? Well this isn't that. Marius' production aesthetic here teeters between edgy and uncomfortable. Eryn Martin's lyrics and vocal delivery are raw and salient. Bluntly put, this track is fucking out there, and yet I cannot stop listening to it.
Undeniably unique and perhaps questionably brilliant, this one screams "FUCK GENRES". If I was forced to label it though, I'd call it "future beat" - a bucket which has become my go to for the idiosyncratic and special.
This is everything that mainstream producers such as Zedd, Illenium, Marshmello, and The Chainsmokers are not. Art on the highest level - imitating no one and seeking zero validation.
Marius Elfsted, whose previous moniker was Melf, and who presently goes by simply Marius, is a rising producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Oslo. Elfstad is equal parts "offbeat, outlandish, and mesmerizing" and while I have so much more to learn about him and his repertoire, from the little I've heard I believe he has a very real chance of becoming a breakthrough EDM artist in the vein of Mura Masa, Cashmere Cat and Flume, who reach success despite defying proven, easy formulas.
It is these types of songs and artists that are the very reason I started Rock With This.
