It feels great to be back! Mario Sunshines is a run I've been thinking about for a long time, and which I knew had plenty of potential timesave in it with the application of a few new strategies. Yoshi's perfect pitch did not end up being one of them - the time investment, I feel, just isn't worth it here. Going for Monty bunt hit off the jump isn't worth it either - better to attempt that goal on better maps, with Dash Spikes to make it even easier (also, the fewer resets in Yoshi the better).
Here's the match by match analysis:
Yoshi: A little sloppy with those 2 runs scored against me, but holy heck was I walking out of there with a ton of goals! Monty 3 Plates (which is a reset point for this route), Luigi Jumping Catch, Mario Grand Slam, Pianta HR, Monty Tag Out, Monty Squeeze Bunt... I had nearly my entire Yoshi wishlist minus Mario Big Play, AND I managed to get this all done under my target time of nine minutes!!! Easily one of the best Yoshi's I've had overall, and I'm so glad I was able to protect this start all the way to the finish line.
Piranha Panic: haha funny number of coins earned
Bob-Omb Derby: The rare but fantastic 6-Bomb!!! Who wouldn't be happy with this?
Barrel Batter: 3 Bonus Barrels isn't amazing, but honestly I'm thrilled with any first try BB in this category. No complaints here at all.
CCS: The hit I took there is exactly why I usually try to avoid the Mushroom. Really dicey given that second place was only five gems behind me, but a win's a win and there was obviously no time loss.
DK: Bunt hit right off the bat put wind in my sails. It was just Perfect Game, Big Play, and good baseball on my mind at that point. Fireball swing thankfully went down easy, too. 3 up, 3 down for a satisfying and damn fast Perfect Game!
Peach: Given that, yes, I had to play multiple innings, I'm glad I was able to make the most of them. Monty Team Star was handed to me basically for free, and Mario Big Play wasn't too hard to grind out. I'm glad I didn't allow any runs given the defense that I was farming, and that I really was able to get out of there quick after getting my *last remaining troublesome goal*.
Wall Ball: Blue Toad put up more of a fight than I would have preferred, but thankfully I was mathematically guaranteed a victory with a full charge on my Turn 3, so of course I took it.
Toy Field: A surprisingly slow start in terms of actually getting coins, but I got some clutch hits when it counted and the Turn 9 Strikeout, while slow, at least got me control of the ball when I essentially needed it in order to win. Just like with Barrel Batter, honestly, I'm just happy that this was first try.
Wario: You never want a two-inning match when you're essentially in Go Mode, but eh, I contained the damage at least. Red Magikoopa was a little jerk for making me do an extra PA even after I'd put down Wario and King Boo (both of whom terrify me).
Bowser: 16 PA first inning mercy without any notable time losses - need I say more? I did ultra-safe pitching against Fire Bro because I would have had a meltdown if that motherfucker had cost me WR in this category (at time of posting).
