On Monday, December 31, 2018, Deputies Chase King and Michael Lowder responded to a home located at the 11000th block of SE 128th Place Road in Ocklawaha in reference to a battery. The investigation revealed the defendant, Daniel Richard Jones (DOB: 8/29/1978), threw gasoline on a 66-year old woman at the residence while she was asleep on the couch. He then approached her with a propane torch and said "You're going to burn tonight." In fear for her life, the woman ran outside to get away from Jones and fled to a nearby neighbor's house for help. The defendant left the residence on foot just prior to our arrival. Additional units along with MCSO's Air One and K-9 Deputy Alan Lee and his K-9, "Zeus" responded. Air One observed the defendant hiding and walking in the woods near the residence and directed units towards him. Upon reaching the defendant, he would not respond to deputies’ numerous commands for him to show his hands, so for the safety of the deputies on scene, K-9 Deputy Lee utilized K-9 Zeus to take the suspect into custody. The defendant sustained a dog bite on his forearm and was treated at a local hospital. He was then transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Person 65 Years of Age or Older (Domestic) and Battery on a Person 65 Years of Age or Older (Domestic). Jones currently has no bond.
