On Monday, December 17, 2018, MCSO Deputy Anthony Esquivel attempted to stop a vehicle in the 5300 block of CR-42, for reckless driving and suspicion of DUI. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. It continued north and stop sticks were successfully utilized at SE 80th Street and Highway 475. The vehicle continued north where Deputy Esquivel performed a PIT maneuver and disabled the vehicle at South Highway 441 and SE 59th Street. The driver/defendant Robert Combs (DOB: 11/07/76), fled on foot, and was apprehended by K-9 “Tipster” and his partner, K-9 Deputy Branden Donahue. Multiple long guns, heroin, meth, drug equipment and marijuana were found inside Combs' vehicle. There was also a female passenger in the vehicle who received minor injuries. After being treated at the hospital for his injuries, Combs was arrested for the following charges: DUI, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Weapon or Ammo by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Meth, Possession of Marijuana, Driving While License Suspended or Revoked, and Possession of Drug Equipment. Combs' driver's license has been suspended five times.
