Man Builds His DREAM House Alone in 500 Days (Start to Finish by @DmitryLukinDIY)
-----------------------------------------------
In this incredible build, Dmitry Lukin takes us through the complete journey of constructing his dream home—from underground systems to final façade details—with precision, patience, and zero shortcuts.
The project begins beneath the surface, where proper sequencing is key. Sewer pipes are installed first and carefully buried in compacted sand before any insulation or concrete work begins. From there, Dmitry builds a highly efficient insulated slab foundation using permanent formwork and XPS insulation boards, creating a fully enclosed thermal base. Plumbing lines, conduits, and underfloor heating penetrations are positioned with exact planning to prevent future structural damage or unnecessary wall cutting.
Red radiant heating pipes are laid in organized loops and secured before reinforcement mesh and steel bars are installed, forming a stable grid to control concrete movement. A collector manifold balances the heating system for even warmth throughout the slab. Around the perimeter, an insulated blind area protects the foundation from frost and seasonal soil movement.
Above ground, aerated concrete blocks form the first-floor walls. Lightweight yet insulating, these blocks are carefully seated to ensure full bearing and structural stability. Reinforcement at the wall tops prepares the structure for a reinforced ring beam, ensuring load continuity. A separate timber terrace structure is built on piles to avoid thermal bridging and frost transfer.
As construction rises, heavy primary beams and secondary joists create a rigid floor system, sealed with OSB sheathing. Internal engineering systems are recessed cleanly into prepared wall channels, and surfaces are properly primed to control moisture absorption. The façade receives AMK brick-effect cladding made of marble chips, delivering the appearance of masonry without the high cost.
The second floor is framed using prefabricated timber wall panels, lifted into place and braced securely. Rafters define the roof’s geometry, followed by insulation, OSB decking, waterproof membranes, and asphalt shingles installed in precise overlapping rows. A skylight is integrated carefully, and gutters are mounted with evenly spaced supports to handle heavy rain and snow loads.
The gable wall is insulated and sealed, while balconies are reinforced, waterproofed, and integrated properly into the structure. The façade design combines a brick-effect base with dark-stained timber cladding on the upper level, creating contrast, depth, and architectural clarity. Wooden trims frame openings, sharpen edges, and protect vulnerable transition zones from moisture.
More than just a house, this project reflects disciplined engineering and thoughtful craftsmanship. Every layer—structural, thermal, waterproofing, and aesthetic—works together as one cohesive system. Dmitry’s build proves that true comfort and durability come not from shortcuts, but from doing things correctly, in the right order, with long-term performance in mind.
