Abandoned for Years – Now a Gorgeous Home!

Dingel-DIY takes on the ultimate challenge—transforming a long-abandoned rehab facility into a dream home. Over 12 months, he turns a neglected structure into a stunning, modernized living space, and we get to watch it all in just 32 minutes!
The journey begins with clearing the site, removing debris, and preparing for sturdy foundation stumps. These aren’t tree stumps but critical structural supports drilled to precise depths based on the house’s weight and soil conditions. Once secure, joists are laid, and moisture-resistant chipboard flooring is installed, allowing for natural expansion without creating awkward floor gaps.
Next, Dingel tackles the roof. Instead of slapping on some shingles and calling it a day, he carefully designs a structure that accounts for load-bearing capacity, climate durability, and aesthetic overhangs. Rafters are locked in place with metal connectors and bolts, while decking and underlayment ensure water resistance. Shiny metal sheets are installed from the bottom up to maximize durability—think gravity, but make it stylish.
Demolition follows as Dingel strips old walls with surgical precision, salvaging anything reusable. The new walls are meticulously planned, with chalk lines ensuring perfect alignment before studs, headers, and plates come together to create a structurally sound frame. Drywall follows, giving a smooth, fire-resistant finish. Meanwhile, stairs are carefully built with solid stringers—no stairway disasters here!
Reinforcing door and window openings is another priority, ensuring no sagging while adding insulation for better energy efficiency. The ceiling joists are checked and secured before insulation and vapor barriers are installed, preventing moisture buildup (because nobody wants a house that smells like wet socks).
With the core structure ready, Dingel moves to interior finishing. A rustic stone fireplace adds warmth, while bright wall colors create an airy, inviting feel. Then comes the showstopper—parquet flooring. Each wood tile is acclimated to the room’s humidity before being laid in geometric perfection over soundproofing underlayment.
