Tired of playing your same old licks? In this lesson, we’ll take a look at adding some spice to your note choices when soloing and improvising.
Let’s say you’ve been a good boy or girl and practiced your scales and arpeggios. This means you’ve spent a lot of time playing whole and half steps (scales), as well as major and minor thirds (arpeggios). This can result in soloing/improvising that only uses these relatively small musical intervals.
If you’re falling into that rut, the easy solution is to consciously focus on using other intervals, like I show you in this lesson. Once you’re comfortable playing phrases using a range of small and large intervals, your playing will be less repetitive and more engaging. Yes!
