Major Pentatonic Scales For Bass + "My Girl" and "Sir Duke"
The major pentatonic scale is an important scale to know on bass or any other instrument. It's just like a major scale, minus the 4th and 7th degrees, making it penta-tonic - five notes.
You'll find the major pentatonic scale in many different styles of music, and on all different instruments, whether it's a bass line, a vocal melody, or the guitar line from "My Girl" by The Temptations (which we'll learn in this video!).
For the more ambitious among us, we'll also run quickly through the soli riff of "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder, a classic melody line that almost exclusively uses the major pentatonic scale!
Be sure to experiment with this scale like you would any other, and explore how the two different scale shapes tend to encourage you to play different combinations of notes.
