Tired of playing the same old rhythmic patterns? With Polyrhythm Bass Groove #1 we'll start explore a particular way of spicing up your rhythmic vocabulary.

This groove uses the 4:3 (4 over 3) polyrhythm, which means that we will play 4 evenly spaced notes in the space of 3 beats. Another way of saying that is that instead of thinking of those 3 beats as 3 groups of 4 sixteenth notes (like we normally would in 4/4 time), we'll group them in 4 groups of 3 sixteenth notes. Either way it adds up to 12 sixteenth notes, but by doing groups of 3 we accomplish this 4:3 polyrhythm.

We'll explore a couple different ways to use this rhythm in today's lesson, first by playing the polyrhythm very literally. Then in a more complex example we'll use the polyrhythm as an accent pattern but throw in a few extra notes.
