After looking around at the usual places for quite a while , i decided to buy myself a brand new magnetic chuck. Used ones in most likely questionable condition are fetching silly prices over here, most of them are also too big for what i want to use it.
So i looked around and found that RDG Tools UK now sells a rectangular version (100x200mm or 4" by 8" for the imperial folk).
Being satisfied with earlier purchases from them, i decided to give it a go and again, i was not disappointed.
Just because we can, I checked it for flatness, measured the break-away force and found nothing really to complain about.
The only fault was a broken plastic knob, most likely a combined shortfall of rather poor packaging and a careless courier service.
But i am pretty sure the seller will sort this issue quick and hassle free..
Please note: force measurements are not very accurate as i reached the max capacity of my scale so i had to use a smaller test piece which was not exactly ideal. With a better test piece i would expect slightly higher values.
Ideally this should be done with different sized pieces in various locations, at least repeated 3 times to get reliable numbers.
Even more ideal would be 3 or more of the same chuck as they surely have tolerances.
It's all down to time and resources, perhaps i do a follow up on this at some point. For now i would assume 0.5N/mm2 -10%/+ 20%
and for flatness +/- 0.01mm or better

I have no connection to RDG Tools whatsoever, this was a regular purchase and i am just a happy customer.
