We visited Norway to explore parkrunworld and to take advantage of Norway's extra day parkrun - Labour Day. Rather than run two parkruns in Oslo we took the opportunity to see some of Norway's spectacular scenery. We took the 7.5 hour train journey from Oslo to Bergen as it is said to be one of the most scenic train journeys in the world!
The train journey did not disappoint! We particularly enjoyed seeing where the snowy scenes in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back were filmed and the incredible scenery took our breath away. There's not many 7.5 hour train journeys that you can't wait to do again!
Løvstien parkrun, Bergen, is extremely hilly! A double out-and-back with what I think is one of the best parkrun start/finish locations in parkrunworld. The views looking out over Bergen are just spectacular! Run Director Alan made us all feel so very welcome, and we set a new attendance record for the event which was lovely. You could tell that the locals are very proud of their stunning parkrun and really enjoyed having visitors to show it off to which added to the atmosphere.
I can't thank Alan and his team enough for a wonderful morning. We enjoyed visiting Norway so much and without parkrun we might not have had the opportunity to meet these fantastic communities. parkrun really is the best way to travel!
